Store Bought or Homemade Gifts?

As a mum, I love homemade gifts. I treasure the homemade gifts my kids made when they were young even more now that they are young adults. It always amazed me how our preschool teachers, Carla, Mrs Reimer and Layla could create so many holiday projects out of my children’s handprints.

This Christmas I was gifted some really incredible gifts. One in particular stole my heart. It is all my children’s names created out of scrabble tiles using my name as the foundation and placed in a shadow box.

Is this not ingenious and one of a kind? I love it.

I love anything to do with the ocean (except scary creatures) and the sound of water (except inside-any parent can appreciate this one). I was given the gift of light this Christmas. I love coastal design so this fits into my home perfectly. It came from one of my favourite beaches and was handmade. As the backdrop indicates, it is in my kitchen presented proudly on my island. Mine is four feet long but you could do a shorter version with what you find beach combing. The inspiration came from a log candle on Urban Barn’s website. Their version could easily be replicated with the right tools. Highschool kids could make this in woodshop class. Bouclair sells something similar if you want to buy instead of make. Do you know someone handy?
