Spring has sprung and we are patiently waiting for warmer weather to arrive! In preparation for this, it’s time to map out and complete our Spring / Summer design goals.
This year, designers are shining a bright light on three specific aspects when it comes to home design. These being self-spaces, natural tones, and dreamy outdoor spaces.
Self-spaces
If you haven’t heard the term self-spaces yet, this refers to a space dedicated to self-care. Many people over the past two years have begun to create spaces within their homes dedicated to wellness or hobbies, and many people see a significant value in this when purchasing their dream homes! As Holly Harper, Head of Inspiration at Not On The High Street says: “our research has shown that people are prioritizing their health and wellbeing over everything else and it’s clear that our homes will continue to play an important role in our lives, as we look to spend time on the things that we love the most.” If you’re considering creating a self-space, try to revolve it around a hobby you like to do most. I will be creating a self-space outdoors – with warmer days approaching, I’d like to have a comfortable nook where I can unwind after a long work day and read a book with a glass of my favourite red in hand.
Natural Textures
Natural textures are something I personally have fallen deeply in love with over the past year, and I can’t wait to implement this look further into both my indoor and outdoor spaces. As Decoholic explains, “woods, jutes, limestones, and rattans are all going to be huge for Summer 2022, because natural and calming is going to be so big this year, never mind for these two seasons. And frankly, there’s something quite relaxing about returning to basic textures and materials and getting rid of the complex.”
Even if you simply buy a new rattan chair for the living room, or replace an old dining set with handwoven chairs and a wooden table, simple add ons to your home will make a huge difference.
Dreamy outdoor spaces
Historically, gardens have been utility spaces, or for aesthetic value such as decorative gardens. We have however seen a bit of a shift in people wanting to give their garden a more cozy feel, making it an extension of their homes. As Mooda Furnishing explains, “with the introduction of softer outdoor-use upholstery, lighting, accessories and even fire pits, people are applying the same interest in the design of their homes to the design of their gardens. This comes with the increase in popularity of outdoor cinema experiences and the availability of outdoor heading systems.”
