Holiday Decor

Decorating your home for the holidays over the next few weeks? Keep reading for inspiration!

First things first – select a holiday colour palette. Interior designer Marie Flanigan recommends opting for a curated colour palette. “Streamline the decorating process by committing yourself to a colour palette,” she says. “Whether it’s white on white or traditional red and green, decide on a clear direction and ensure any newly purchased items coordinate.”

Now that you’ve selected your palette, let’s start from the outside and work our way in.

This year, I’m thinking of going a bit over the top with my holiday decor, starting with the entrance. To achieve this look, outline your door with a bauble-packed garland and complete the look with a matching wreath. Your guests (and Santa!) will be in the holiday spirit before they even step inside.

As we enter the house, your stairway will most likely be one of the first things you see. This pretty decor idea from designer Sarah Bartholomew will transform your stairway into a subtle but festive delight.

Sarah Bartholomew has draped a verdant garland effortlessly along the staircase, fastening it in place with romantic long red ribbons. I absolutely love this look, it makes for a great, simple holiday DIY project.

Next it’s onto your living room which of course will include a beautifully decorated tree. Your tree should also go in line with the palette you have chosen. This soft yet elegant tree may inspire you to go a bit lighter this year!

Holiday design expert Brad Schmidt decorated this wintry, whimsical Christmas tree in soft blush, gold and ivory ornaments from Balsam Hill. “The soft color palette of the Winter Wishes Ornament Set not only looks great on the tree but as a centerpiece,” he says. “Insert ornaments in clear cylinders or bowls of different sizes to add a beautiful interior accent. Battery-operated microlights are a fun way to brighten up the piece.”

Should you have opted for a more traditional palette, this design may just catch your eye! Personally, I absolutely love the earthy, natural tones. This is most-likely how I’ll be decorating my home this year for the holidays.

Have something a bit more sparkly in mind? This silver-flocked, coastal-chic tree stuns with ornaments and ribbon in varying shades of blue and a beachy starfish topper.

I have a feeling a few of my friends will opt for this look, and I can’t wait to see the end result in the next few weeks.

Next up we have the space which we spend the most time around the holidays – the kitchen! Whether you’re cooking, baking, or simply having breakfast at the kitchen island over the holiday season, it’s important to add small decor pieces to tie your home together – keep your palette in mind.

My go-to is bringing warmth into the kitchen with a bit of greenery around the window above the sink, and taking large and medium glass vases then adding my ornaments neatly stacked one on top of another within.

Finishing touches – don’t forget your laundry room!

As Anna Fixen explains for Elle Decor, there’s no one better to go to than Lauren Elaine Interiors for sprucing up even the smallest of spaces. The Atlanta-based designer decked out this butler’s pantry with a lush green wreath and matching mini topiaries. This both a do-able and eye catching holiday decor project.

I hope these suggestions gotten you inspired to begin decorating for the holidays!
