First things first – select a holiday colour palette. Interior designer Marie Flanigan recommends opting for a curated colour palette. “Streamline the decorating process by committing yourself to a colour palette,” she says. “Whether it’s white on white or traditional red and green, decide on a clear direction and ensure any newly purchased items coordinate.”

Now that you’ve selected your palette, let’s start from the outside and work our way in.

This year, I’m thinking of going a bit over the top with my holiday decor, starting with the entrance. To achieve this look, outline your door with a bauble-packed garland and complete the look with a matching wreath. Your guests (and Santa!) will be in the holiday spirit before they even step inside.
As we enter the house, your stairway will most likely be one of the first things you see. This pretty decor idea from designer Sarah Bartholomew will transform your stairway into a subtle but festive delight.

Sarah Bartholomew has draped a verdant garland effortlessly along the staircase, fastening it in place with romantic long red ribbons. I absolutely love this look, it makes for a great, simple holiday DIY project.
Next it’s onto your living room which of course will include a beautifully decorated tree. Your tree should also go in line with the palette you have chosen. This soft yet elegant tree may inspire you to go a bit lighter this year!

My go-to is bringing warmth into the kitchen with a bit of greenery around the window above the sink, and taking large and medium glass vases then adding my ornaments neatly stacked one on top of another within.
